5 easy steps to change recliner seat springs

The whole process is not as hard as it first looks. I will categorize the entire process in five steps:

  1. Disassemble your recliner
  2. Remove the seat
  3. Remove springs
  4. Install new springs
  5. Reassemble recliner

You can see that you don’t need a rocket science degree to change seat springs on your armchair. Now let’s talk in more detail about every step.

1) Disassemble

The first step in replacing the seat springs is to take apart the chair. Do this by removing the screws that hold the chair’s back together with a screwdriver. Once these screws are removed, you will be able to take off the chair’s back and see inside it.

2) Remove the seat

Once you take the back off your recliner, remove the seat. Use a tool to cut out any staples that hold it in place. Then lift on the seat until it comes loose from the frame of your chair. It may take some effort on your part. Besides, be sure to set it down facing down, so none of its parts spill out when you eventually remove it later.

After taking off all the staples and the seat, you can see how your lazy boy recliner is made. The first layer you need to take off is foam and do this by pulling it off the frame.

3) Remove Springs

After you remove the foam, you will see the springs. There are the things you need to replace. Use a wire cutter to cut wires holding them in place, and then take them out of their frame and throw them away.

4) Install New Springs

Now you need to put new springs in. You can do it by feeding it through the frame and then securing it with pliers or wire cutters. After that, add all the layers you took off before starting this project. You may notice some staples leftover when they first installed your chair, and if so, remove them before putting your chair back together.

5) Reassemble the recliner chair

The last step is to put it back together. You can do this by attaching its back and putting in the screws. This is difficult, but I believe in you. It will take some time, but eventually, you will do it.

Test it out once you have put together the spring system in your recliner. If it feels as good as new, congrats! Enjoy your newly assembled recliner!
